Powerhand GN Rail Grapple with grapple legs open

Powerhand sets a new safety benchmark for attachments in the UK rail industry

Powerhand is proud to announce that the GN Series Rail Grapple has achieved full Network Rail Product Approval, officially certifying the attachment for use across the UK rail network.

Built for the most demanding rail applications, the GN grapple combines exceptional strength, four dedicated grip modes (wide, pinch, clamp, and bundle), and the innovative I-GRIP safety system. This innovative feature visually alerts the operator when the grapple is open, tip-to-tip, or fully closed – removing guesswork and reducing the risk of dropped loads in low-visibility or high-pressure environments.

Officially Certified for Safety, Compatibility and Performance

The Powerhand GN grapple has achieved Network Rail Product Acceptance, confirming it meets the organisation’s standards for:

  • Safety – suitable for use on or near the railway with no unacceptable risk to people or infrastructure
  • Compatibility – works in harmony with Network Rail’s infrastructure and systems
  • Reliability – performs consistently and predictably in operational conditions
  • Fitness for purpose – proven to deliver what it’s designed for within the rail environment

“This approval is a game-changer,” said Murray Clark, Managing Director at Powerhand. “The GN grapple is now not only the strongest and most versatile in its class, it’s also officially certified to the highest safety standards in the UK.”

Built for Rail. Built in the UK.

Powerhand’s range of rail-specific hydraulic attachments is designed and manufactured in-house in the UK and includes:

GN Series Rail Grapples – versatile handling of rails, sleepers, and vegetation

SL Series Sleeper Grabs – compact handling of single or stacked sleepers

CS and CC Series Clamshells – low-profile digging and material rehandling

GR Series Pinching Grapples – heavy-duty rail pincer grapple

SG Series Sorting Grapples – efficient general-purpose rail-side clearance

In addition to the Powerhand range, Powerhand also supply the Mense RP Series Brush Cutters to the UK market. These cutters received Network Rail Product Approval in 2023 and feature twin reciprocating blades to deliver fast, controlled vegetation clearance without throwing debris – ideal for use near live track and infrastructure.
